If the only tool you have is a hammer, you tend to see every problem as a nail.

Me: Oh wow. So many boxes. Stuff everywhere 😦

I read an article yesterday that suggested we raise girls to be damsels in need of protection and saving. Girls are at risk of predation, poor self esteem and making the kind of mistake that results in ‘game over’.
We tread carefully to avoid ruination when we should take risks and learn how to put ourselves back together when Humpty falls.
Think of the women you know who have sunk to the bottom of society or pulled themselves together and thrived. From my experience, it has been their attitude that made the difference.
The women who sank had a defensive, victim attitude. The women who swam accepted themselves, their situation and got on with living as though they expected life to get better … and it did, 100% of the time.
When my marriage ended in 2008, I thought it was game over. Yet the years that followed were adventurous and amazing. I put myself back together and I was okay.
This time, I will not look at all the boxes and think it’s game over. I have more tools in my belt than just that hammer to knock myself down.
This time, I will be like the cat and see the promise of new adventure.
